his addition to the 164th Infantry Association dates from 1943-1998 and consists of eight folders. The first folder consists of correspondence. This correspondence is a letter from Bob Carr to John Sather telling Sather stories of his father during the war. The second folder contains a short biography on John Edward Stannard, a member of the 164th, written by his son. The Department of Special Collections has a copy of Stannard's book, The Battle of Coffin Corner, which is housed in the North Dakota Book Collection. The third folder contains the poem "Helmet on a Rifle" by R.A. Gannon. This poem tells of the death of the author's brother in the war. The fourth folder contains newspaper and magazine articles from The Fargo Forum and The Bowman County Pioneer. The fifth folder contains maps of the Solomon Islands labeled with points of attack, bases and paths followed. The sixth folder contains a September issue of Sad Sack, a popular comic book among the American soldiers. The seventh folder contains many issues of the Americal Newsletter from the years 1991-1998. The eigth folder contains issues of The Old Breed News and the 1st Battalion 182nd Infantry, as well as an article from an unnamed newsletter.
One oversize folder was separated and placed in the Oversize File Cabinets. This folder contains two issues of both Yank and Guadalcanal Echoes, as well as one issue of the Times-Republican, The Des Moines Sunday Register, and The Dickinson Press.
