ACQUISITION: This addition to the Carleton Elliott Simensen Military Heritage Collection, 164th Infantry Association Records was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by James Fenelon, Marshalltown, Iowa on November 22, 1996 (Acc.#96-2090).
ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.
This addition to the 164th Infantry Association Records dates from 1942 to 1996 and consists of five folders. The first folder contains copies of three resolutions that the 164th Infantry Association passed in 1996. The second folder contains two ribbons from the 50th Anniversary of World War II awarded to members of the 164th infantry, as well as a medal from the SS President Coolidge. The third folder contains several newspaper articles and newsletters, while the fourth folder contains a book entitled The Jap Army. This book was published in 1942 as part of an army orientation course. Along with this book are notes made by James Fenelon which provide background information. The fifth folder contains five copies of the limited edition book I Am Ready, released on the occasion of the dedication of the 164th Infantry Regiment Memorial on September 24, 1994. The monument is located in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan, ND.

The articles Back from Guadalcanal from The Bismarck Tribune and A deep and abiding friendship from The Minot Daily News, as well as maps of Guadalcanal drawn by the Japanese and translated into English, were separated and placed in Overside Folder 10.
