INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: This addition to the Thomas McGrath Collection was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Naomi Stern, wife of Frederick Stern, Gary, Indiana on November 23, 1992.

ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the Thomas McGrath Collection is divided into two series. Series I consists of correspondence, manuscript drafts and proofs related to several written projects about Thomas McGrath which Frederick Stern completed between 1975 and 1991. Material is arranged by topic. Series II consists of correspondence and drafts of manuscripts relating to the book, The Revolutionary Poet in the United States: The Poetry of Thomas McGrath, which was edited by Frederick Stern and published in 1988 by the University of Missouri Press. Also included is an audio tape of Thomas McGrath reading selected works from Letter to an Imaginary Friend and The Movie at the End of the World. The Department of Special Collections has a copy of The Revolutionary Poet in the United States: The Poetry of Thomas McGrath(call number PS 3525 .A24234 Z87 1988).
