SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the Milton R. Young Papers consists of audio cassettes of oral history interviews conducted by Dr. D. Jerome Tweton in 1977 and 1979. Dr. Tweton interviewed Senator Young on a wide variety of topics, ranging from his childhood to his final congressional session. Dr. Tweton also interviewed Chris Sylvester, Senator Young's Administrative Assistant.

There are transcriptions of all the 1977 Young interviews, one of the 1979, and the 1979 Sylvester interview, but no transcriptions were done for most of the 1979 Young interviews.

A subject index of the 1979 interviews is provided in place of a transcription. Each tape is cross-referenced to its transcription, if one exists.

The interviews offer a rare glimpse into state, regional, and national affairs usually reserved for political insiders. Dr. Tweton and Senator Young discussed many topics and Senator Young was extremely candid on most topics. The tapes provide a first-hand look at the life of one of North Dakota's most influential legislators and opens the mind of Senator Young to the serious researcher.
