INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: This addition to the William Lemke Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by the State Historical Society of North Dakota on May 16, 1983 (Acc.#83-1077).

ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The addition to the William Lemke Papers consists of Congressional bills sponsored by Rep. William Lemke for the creation of the Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park and related correspondence and publications. The correspondence raises various issues: (1) title of the park; (2) addition of the North Roosevelt Recreational Demonstration Area to the park; (3) the addition and reconstruction of the Elkhorn Ranch buildings south of Beaver Creek Roosevelt's old ranch headquarters; f) establishment of park boundaries deemed essential to park maintenance and development; (5) exchange provision for eliminating non-Federal holdings from the park; (6) grazing districts leased to ranchers and access to water and artesian wells. The addition to the William Lemke Papers was removed from the holdings of the State Historical Society of North Dakota and deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript on May 16, 1983.
