WILSON LAIRD PAPERS

COLLECTION: OGL #307 (addition)

DATES: 1905-1979 [Bulk Dates 1937-1979]

SIZE: 4 linear feet

INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: This addition to the Wilson Laird Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Wilson Laird, Kerrville, Texas, on August 12, 1983 (Acc.#83-1171).

ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the Wilson Laird Papers dates from 1905-1979, although the bulk of the material dates from 1937-1979. The addition has been divided into three series as follows:

SERIES I: Speeches

The first series consists of the text of speeches Laird delivered to civic groups, professional organizations, University audiences, and governmental entities. He also presented testimony to several congressional sub-committees, particularly during his tenure as Director of the Office of Oil and Gas, U.S. Department of the Interior, 1969-1971. Material in this series dates from 1944-1979, and has been arranged chronologically.
Box 6, Folder 1 - Box 8, Folder 53

SERIES II: Writings

The second series consists of Laird's writings, including this Master’s thesis and Ph.D. dissertation. Also included are articles he wrote for various geological publications, North Dakota Geological Survey Bulletins, and scholarly journal articles. This series dates from 1937- 1965, and has been arranged chronologically. It should be noted, however, that these publications do not represent a complete bibliography.
Box 8, Folder 54 - Box 9, Folder 38

SERIES III: Employment

This series regards Laird's work as a consulting geologist for various oil companies. Material includes correspondence, reports, maps, and newspaper clippings. The correspondence dealing with his 1950 mission to Germany and Turkey for the Air Force and Army is vague and without a report, due to the confidential nature of the work. Files and correspondence from his tenure as Director of the Office of Oil and Gas, U.S. Department of the Interior, and Director of Exploration, American Petroleum Institute, are also included.
Box 9, Folder 39 - Box 10, Folder 5

Thirty photographs were separated and added to the Orin G. Libby Photograph Collection. In addition, material in ten oversize folders was separated and placed in the oversize file cabinets.
