HISTORICAL SKETCH

The Debunker, a political magazine dealing with life in North Dakota, was edited and published by the Equity Publishing Company of Bismarck, North Dakota. The object of the magazine was "to publish the truth about such matters of interest to the ordinary people of the State and Nation, uncolored by political or personal prejudice or bias." The editors summed it all up by writing that "WE WILL RAISE PLENTY OF HELL, AT 25¢ THE COPY" (emphasis theirs). The first edition was published in 1939, on the occassion of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the state of North Dakota .

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collections contains the very first issue of The Debunker. The issue contains the following articles: "Introduction," "The Jamestown Mess," "School for Criminals," "Minot Milk Graft," "Egotistical Public Asses," "Rat Riley," "Assinine Anti-Alcoholism," "The Friend of Labor," "Corruption in Our Courts," "Senator Bankhead," "The Decline and Fall of Elizabeth Preston Anderson," and "Pinning Back the Ears of W. P. A. Critics." The issue is 32 pages in length.
