ACQUISITION: This addition to the J. M. Gillette Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection. The material was transferred from the North Dakota Book Collection (Acc.#2003-2658).

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the J. M. Gillette Papers dates from 1919, and consists of a magazine article written by Gillette entitled “The North Dakota Harvest of the Nonpartisan League.” The article appeared in the March 1, 1919, edition of The Survey. This article gives a non-biased view of the history of Nonpartisan League. It lists the causes for the rise of the League, which vary from farmers dissatisfaction with marking conditions to the farmers continued effort to secure state terminal elevators. It also tells of the economic program for North Dakota and lists measures that were passed by the League. Finally it explains the methods that were used by the League to attain its ends.
