This addition to the Sister Ellen Murphy Papers dates from 1947-2002 and is divided into four sections. The first section contains correspondence. The majority of this collection consists of correspondence from Sister Ellen to Father Robert J. Mullins, St. Cloud, Minnesota. The correspondence discusses the weather, convent happenings, Sister Ellen's activities, as well as articles and cartoons from The New Yorker. There is also correspondence to and from Sister Mary Matt, Kalamazoo, Michigan, who was a dear friend of Sister Ellen's. Also included, is family, work, poetry, and miscellaneous correspondence.
The next section contains Sister Ellen's personal daily diaries from 1996-1998. These diaries consist of Sister Ellen's thoughts, activities, weather, and miscellaneous happenings of each day. The third section is the poetry by Sister Ellen including "Letting Go", Sister Ellen's last poem written. Many times Sister Ellen drafted her poems and sent them to Father Mullins to proofread. The poems are arranged alphabetically.
The last section consists of family documents including Bachelor's Grove materials. Bachelor's Grove was a group of families, which was located between Larimore and Niagara in Brenna Township, Grand Forks County. Included in this section is Sister Ellen's obituary as well as obituaries of Tim Murphy, Ellen's brother, and Helen Murphy, Ellen's mother. Sister Ellen wrote a genealogical book of Bachelor's Grove entitled, A Family Tree in Bachelor's Grove and is contained in this collection.
