ACQUISITION: This addition to the Fred G. Aandahl Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection on April 18, 1996 (Acc. #96-2064), 1998 (Acc. #98-2203), and May 20, 1999 (Acc. #99-2244) by Louise Aandahl Stockman of Fargo, North Dakota.

This addition to the Fred G. Aandahl Papers contains a large scrapbook from Aandahl's years in the President Dwight D. Eisenhower Administration; Aandahl served as Assistant Secretary of the Interior from 1953 until 1960. The scrapbook measures 14.5" wide by 17" tall, and consists almost exclusively of black and white photographs. The photographs depict important events, meetings, conferences, and projects of the Department of the Interior.
The addition also includes the 1917 and 1918 "Flickertail" yearbooks from UND's Model High School; one business card declaring Aandahl’s candidacy for State Senate; a photo album containing photos, negatives, and proof sheets dating from 1945-50 and 1958; two books: Cannon's Procedure in the House of Representatives and House Rules and Manuals: 82nd Congress; a guestbook from 1951-53 while Aandahl was a U.S. Representative; and one 1996 letter from the Vesterheim Center, Decorah, Iowa, to Louise Aandahl Stockman.
The following items were also part of this addition and are on display in the Fred G. Aandahl Collection of Books on the Great Plains: five Governor's Conference handbooks (1945-1949); Aandahl's gavel from the 1946 Governor's Conference; medallion and nameplate from the 1947 Governor's Conference; published proceeding of the 1950 Governor's Conference; 1951 Pocket congressional Dictionary; UND Alumni Association Distinguished Service citation (1958); Doctor of Laws diploma and certification (1962); an original Svea farm house portrait; framed Eisenhower portrait inscribed to Fred G. Aandahl; framed photo of Department of Interior officials; Aandahl's desk flags (U.S. and North Dakota); Doctoral hood; framed Aandahl Certificate of Appointment to Interior; and assorted campaign brochures.

This box contains Aandahl's desk flagstand. The flags associated with the stand
are on display in the Fred G. Aandahl Collection of Books on the Great Plains.
One scrapbook was separated and placed in overflow. It primarily contains black and white photographs dating from 1951-60, dealing with Aandahl's duties as Assistant Secretary of the Interior. Additional materials include a certificate and correspondence.
