AQUISITION: This addition to the John M. Hancock Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Dan Rylance, Department Head, Elwyn B. Robinson Department of Special Collections, in August 1989 (Acc.#89-1675).
ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.
This addition to the John M. Hancock Papers consists of eight medals belonging to Hancock. Two of the medals date from 1903, and are from the North Dakota Interscholastic Championship.
Three of the medals are tennis related. The first dates from 1915, and was awarded by the Navy for for winning the Departmental Tennis League. The second is dated 1922, and is for 2nd place in Mens Singles. The third medal reads District Patriotic Tennis Tournament Doubles Won by Doyle and Hancock. This medal is not dated.
The final three medals are related to World War I. The first medal was given by the citizens of the District of Columbia for World War Service. The final two medals are related to the War Industries Board, and date from 1920 and 1926.
All of the medals are housed in Box 10, Folder 7.
