ACQUISITION:The North Dakota National Guard Records were photocopied from the originals held by D. J. Guerrero of Fargo, North Dakota in 1983 (Acc. #83-1222). The plaque was found in a storage closest at the UND Memorial Union and delivered to Special Collections by an unnamed student (Acc.#2001-2533).
ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.
The North Dakota National Guard Records contain manuscripts covering the early development and history of the North Dakota National Guard, established in Dakota Territory in 1862 as a voluntary military organization. The NDNG served as the North Dakota First Infantry in the Spanish American War and the Philippine Insurrection, 1898 - 1899 and in the Mexican Border Incident, 1916 - 1917. It served as the 164th Infantry during World War I and World War II. The collection consists of various histories, stories, anecdotes, personnel lists, etc. The manuscripts were photocopied from originals held by D. J. Guerrero of Fargo.
Also included is a 1979 plaque given to the University of North Dakota in honor of its support of the North Dakota National Guard Tuition Waiver Program. The plaque was given in honor of UND's support of the North Dakota National Guard Tuition Waiver Program. It was found in a storage closet at the UND Memorial Union and given to the Department of Special Collections.
