INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: The College for Human Resources Development Records were deposited into University Archives by the Dean's Office, College for Human Resources Development, in July 1996.

ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

HISTORICAL SKETCH

The College for Human Resources Development was founded July 1,1972 with the purpose of preparing students for careers in human services. The college consisted of six departments, all of which came from already existing colleges. From the College of Education, came health, physical education, and recreation, counseling and guidance, industrial technology, and home economics and nutrition. Social work came from the College of Arts and Sciences, and occupational therapy came from the School of Medicine. Later, a seventh department was added, which was library science and audiovisual. This department was transferred from the College of Education. Dr. Henry Tomasek was appointed as dean of the college in January of 1974, and remained in that position until the closing of the college. In 1996, the College for Human Resources Development was eliminated due to low enrollment. Three of it's departments merged with the Center for Teaching and Learning to form the College of Education and Human Development. They included social work, health, physical education, and recreation, and counseling and guidance. The other departments were transferred back to their original college or were eliminated completely.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

he College for Human Resources Development Records consists of documents dating from 1961-1996. The first group of material is annual reports for the College of Human Resources Development (HRD) and dates from 1972-1994. Following this is departmental course outlines dating from the fall semester in 1988 through the spring semester in 1994. After that, is material related to the governance and evaluation procedures for each separate department within the college. These files date from 1979-1992. There were two types of faculty files in this collection, the first of which was entitled faculty files and it dates from 1961-1986, and the second of which was entitled resigned/retired faculty files. These folders were arranged alphabetically by last name. Promotion files are another part of this collection. These files were also arranged alphabetically by last name. The last material in the collection contains miscellaneous documents concerning reports, committees, future planning, budgeting, and newsletters.
