UND to Help with Weather Forecasts During NWS Radar Outage
UND’s WSR-74C polarimetric Doppler radar produces ultra-accurate images of what goes on in rain clouds. It’s an essential weather eye that helps scientists figure out, among other things, how storms develop and track. For the next week or so, UND’s highly specialized radar unit will help local media get weather news to the public while [...]
Studio One Highlights a NASA Researcher
On this Studio One show, one man shares how he is working to improve accuracy of weather forecasts. Tony Grainger, an Atmospheric Sciences professor at the UND, will talk about his research with NASA. Grainger was a crew member and flight scientist on the Cessna Citation II Research Jet. He says he works to, “get cloud [...]
UND Research Jet on NASA Mission in Canada
Anyone who’s grown up on the northern plains will tell you straight—winters up here are long, dark and cold. And usually snowy. But not this year. The 2011-2012 snow season has so far been a lot warmer than expected with a lot less snow. This year’s dramatic change from “normal” underscores how tough it is [...]
UND is now a Full Member of UCAR
The University of North Dakota is now a full member of UCAR, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. UCAR’s mission is to foster scientific collaboration, improve scientific understanding, and provide services in support of community efforts in research and education in the atmospheric and related sciences. UND’s membership in UCAR gives our program full recognition [...]
