SIL colloquium will feature John Clifton June 14
John Clifton will present his findings on “Colonialism, Nationalism and Language Vitality in Azerbaijan” at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, in 300 Merrifield Hall. He holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from Indiana University.
Clifton examines the linguistic competition between languages in Azerbaijan, tracing the relationships between multilingualism and language shift on one hand, and colonization and nationalism on the other. He concludes with a description of cooperative efforts with interested local communities to maintain their heritage language.
