Space Studies and Astronomy Club to host ‘Star Party’ Aug. 10

Space Studies and the University’s Astronomy Club will be holding a special “Public Star Party” event at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the UND Observatory near Emerado.

Directions: Take U.S. Highway 2 west from Grand Forks, turn left onto a dirt road just after mile marker 346, turn right at the “T” intersection right after the railroad tracks. After a little more than a mile, turn left. There will be a green and white sign that reads “UND Observatory.” The observatory will be on the left after about half a mile. GPS coordinates are 47.9115, -97.3252.

This Star Party will focus on the very active “Perseid Meteor Shower” that will be taking place Friday night. It’s free, everyone is welcome and activities are targeted for all ages. The public also is invited to bring telescopes or use ones provided by the astronomy club and Space Studies Department.

The event is contingent on clear skies and could be cancelled if conditions are not favorable. Cancellation announcements will be made on the Observatory Facebook and Twitter pages.
