Art and Design visiting artist series presents Julie Blackmon Oct. 18

Photographer Julie Blackmon will be on campus Wednesday-Thursday, Oct. 17-18, to work with classes within the Art and Design Department.  She will present a free public lecture at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Hughes Fine Arts Center Paul E. Barr Memorial Lecture Room, 227. The events are open to the public.

Julie Blackmon lives and works in Springfield, Mo. Her photographs are inspired by her experience of growing up in a large family, her current role as both mother and photographer, and the timelessness of family dynamics. She is best known for her series, Domestic Vacations, and is represented by many galleries, including Robert Man Gallery in New York City, Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago, and the Photographers’ Gallery in London. She was awarded the American Photo’s Emerging Photographer in 2008 and in 2006 won the Critical Mass Book Award for Domestic Vacations. Her photographic works are in many collections, including The George Eastman House, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Elton John Collection.
