UND purchases solar compactor
In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, UND has purchased a BigBelly solar compactor. The unit consists of two receptacles, one for recycling and the other for trash collection. Both are solar powered and equipped with a wireless monitoring device that indicates when they need to be emptied. The signal is sent to the recycling office located at Facilities Management.
The solar compactor units benefit the University by promoting renewable energy, recycling, and sustainability while keeping the campus beautiful.
The compactor is currently located at the south entrance of the Gorecki Alumni Center and is the only solar compactor in North Dakota.
