REA will host ball hockey tournament May 31-June 2
Ralph Engelstad Arena will host its first-ever ball hockey tournament from May 31-June 2. The tournament will take place on the concrete surfaces in the Ralph Engelstad Arena and the Olympic Arena when the ice is out. Each Arena will utilize dividers to create three “cross-ice” ball hockey rinks.
Ball hockey is similar to the game of hockey; however it is not played on ice, does not require full equipment, and consists of four or more players per team (three players and one goalie). Various divisions based on skill and age will be offered. Ball hockey is a sport typically played on streets across North America and tournaments are common in major Canadian cities.
Ralph Engelstad Arena is creating this start-up tournament as an annual event to bring additional guests to Grand Forks and to offer another entertainment/recreation option for the local community. The ball hockey tournament is for all ages (youth through adult, male and female) and will be the first tournament of its kind in the Upper Great Plains. The goal is to have 100 teams participate in the event’s first year.
In addition to the tournament, this sports festival will provide activities and attractions for all ages. A concert with regional entertainment will be announced in the coming weeks.
