Paul Hardersen receives award from Diane Hillebrand

Harderson, associate professor of Space Studies.  He was nominated by Suezette Bieri, and presented with a certificate by Staff Senate Vice President Diane Hillebrand.

This award, in honor of World Kindness Week, recognizes and celebrates a UND faculty member, staff member, and student who have gone out of their way to demonstrate kindness to others.

Here is an excerpt of what was said about Paul:  “This last Thursday, Paul Hardersen, a gourmet cook, prepared and served a complete Thanksgiving dinner for 15 graduate students from Space Studies who were unable to go home for the holiday or who were from the area but did not want to cook.  He did not send out invitations to specific individuals but instead sent out an announcement that everyone in the department (yes, everyone!) was invited. The students were domestic and international, vegetarians and meat eaters. He cooked for two days.  In addition, he drove about town picking up and returning students who did not have transportation. His actions can only be described as gracious.”

All faculty, staff, and students are eligible to receive this award.  Nominations in honor of Random Acts of Kindness Week will be accepted through the month of February and can be submitted through the Staff Senate website at  All staff member nominations will also be held in consideration for the U-Shine Award, which is awarded monthly to a staff member.
