Give the best Valentine gift ever: IMPACT training
The dates for the next IMPACT (International Movement Promoting Assault Contravention Training) course, available through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UND (OLLI@UND) and sponsored in part by the Red River Valley Motorcyclists, will be Tuesdays, March 12, 19, 26, and April 2 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the UND Hyslop Sports Center. This is the perfect Valentine gift to give your sweetheart, daughter, sister, niece, or any special woman in your life 18 years and better. No longer can you say, “I never thought this would happen in our community.” If she finds herself a victim of sexual assault, how would she handle it? What would she do? It doesn’t matter what size or age she is or what physical limitations she may have, she will learn to protect herself in case of an attack on her life with the IMPACT course.
IMPACT is a highly specialized self-defense program based on the idea that learning is best accomplished by doing. A specially trained “mugger” instructor dons state-of-the-art customized padding so your Valentine can practice the full-force defensive tactics. She will learn by fighting in scenarios that are as realistic as possible. Encourage her to take this class with her mother, sister, daughter, granddaughter or girlfriend. Together they will learn simple, effective self-defense skills while practicing in a safe environment. The prices for the course are: OLLI member, $35; UND student/staff/faculty, $55; non-member, $70. A special four-day temporary parking permit for the IMPACT course only is $15. This temporary permit is for those who have no other type of parking permit such as an annual OLLI permit or regular UND permit.
Be her hero; show your sweetheart how much she means to you by giving the gift of a "fighting chance." Not only will she be empowered with defensive skills, she will gain confidence by building a voice against violence. It's a guaranteed, life-changing experience she will never forget and will have her thanking you for years to come.
