March 26 Breakfast Seminar Focuses on Revising Writing for Flow
When we talk about writing, we often talk about “flow,” but what exactly is flow? In this On Teaching Seminar, we will talk about what creates a sense of flow in writing and share revision strategies to improve flow. To test out these strategies for yourself, bring a draft of something you’re working on—either a hard copy or on your laptop.
Talking to other faculty about how they generate, draft, revise, and edit their work helps us as writers and as teachers. Not only do we learn tricks to apply to our own drafts, but we also learn how to explicitly discuss the writing process with students. As we become more and more aware of our own writing processes, we can guide students through productive writing process strategies. We can also build these process strategies into writing assignments. This breakfast discussion takes place at a special time: Tuesday, March 26, 8:30-9:30 a.m., in the Badlands Room, Memorial Union.
