F. Richard Ferraro, Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor of Psychology, has been named to a task force that focuses on the psychology of “weaponized” unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

The eight-member task force, “Research Agenda for Psychology of Weaponized Umanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones),” is part of the American Psychological Association’s Division 48: Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict and Violence: Peace Psychology.

Ferraro has vast experience working with UND’s UAS Center of Excellence program. He said his background and experience on human-factors studies related to UAS pilots on surveillance drones has helped him prepare for the research that lies ahead of him.

“I have also done video game work to see how that prepares individuals to be better pilots and sensors,” Ferraro said.

Ferraro also is director of the Experimental Ph.D. Program, with an interest in the field of psychology, including neuropsychology, visual word recognition and frontal lobe functioning, to name a few.
