Effort Policy signed by President Kelley
The Effort Reporting Policy has been signed by President Kelley and will go into effect May 1, 2013. This policy has been posted to the VPRED website and may be found in the New/Revised Policy Updates, and in the appropriate section of the A-Z Policy Index.
The policy states that all Principal Investigators must commit 5 percent effort in a proposal to accurately reflect their leadership of the project. Key personnel must also show an effort commitment or they cannot be listed as key personnel. The effort of Principal Investigators and Key Personnel must be clearly stated on the proposal transmittal form.
Exceptions to the policy include proposals for equipment grants, construction grants or scholarship grants if no mentoring is required. Any Principal Investigator requesting an exception to the policy should contact Research Development and Compliance well in advance of the proposal submission deadline and provide adequate documentation to support the request. All exceptions will be reviewed on a case by case basis and a determination will be made by an authorized signing official of the University. Failure to provide the required documentation will result in the proposal being held until the information is received.
When an award is received, the Principal investigator and Key Personnel will be required to certify their effort on semester Personnel Activity Confirmation reports.
