Law School Commencement Ceremony is May 4

The School of Law will confer the degree of Juris Doctor (J.D.) during commencement ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Chester Fritz Auditorium.  Sixty-seven candidates will participate in the ceremony.

Shon Hastings, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of North Dakota, will deliver the commencement address.  Judge Hastings was sworn in as Bankruptcy Judge for the District of North Dakota on September 9, 2011.  She received a B.B.A. magna cum laude (1986) and a J.D. with honors (1993) from the University of North Dakota.  Judge Hastings began her legal career as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Karen K. Klein, United States Magistrate Judge. After her clerkship, she joined Bowman and Brook, LLC, a law firm specializing in products liability litigation headquarted in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From January 1998 until her appointment, Judge Hastings worked as an Assistant United States Attorney in Fargo.

The graduates have completed 90 credits of coursework including the required first-year curriculum and Professional Responsibility, in addition to completing a writing requirement and skills requirement.
