Those age 50+ invited to Aug. 12 OLLI@UND fall showcase

Join us for the fall showcase on Monday, Aug. 12, to learn about the fall programs offered by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI@UND). The free social and fall course preview will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Hope Evangelical Covenant Church, Grand Cities Mall, 1601 17th Ave. S, Grand Forks.

This is wonderful opportunity to visit with the OLLI instructors about the courses they will be teaching this fall and enjoy an upbeat social event with refreshments. Our guest speaker at 5:20 p.m. will be Drew Combs, director of Minerals Management Division with the ND Land Department.

The OLLI@UND fall semester begins Sept. 9. Course offerings include 20th Century Heroes in Conservation; iPads 101; Buckwheat, Charlie Chan and Other Myths in Hollywood Films; American Indian Social Justice and Religion; Taking the Mystery Out of Color Theory; and self-defense training (IMPACT). Additionally, there will be lectures held on natural healing, Republic of Georgia, interpersonal violence, and the Ku Klux Klan.

There is also a six day, six state educational fall trip to explore Door County, Wis. Some highlights include Pine Cone Ridge Alpaca breeding ranch, Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center, Rowleys Bay Resort, Lambeau Field, EAA AirVenture Museum, and Redlin Art Center. These programs are purely for enjoyment without tests, grades or need for prior college experience.

OLLI@UND is making a difference in the community and in people’s lives as the leading provider of lifelong learning for older adults. Bringing together mature adults who have a passion for continued learning and intellectual growth, OLLI offers courses and events that will challenge the mind, expand the spirit and engage your emotions ― without the stress of grades or tests!
