Space Still available for IMPACT, a self defense course for women

OLLI@UND offers a 12-hour IMPACT course that is open to all women 18 years and older. Classes begin today, Tuesday, Oct. 1.

IMPACT (International Movement Promoting Assault Contravention Training) is a highly specialized self-defense program for women that is based on the idea that learning is best accomplished by “doing.” A specially trained “mugger” instructor dons state-of-the-art customized padding so that you can practice the full-force defensive tactics. You will learn by fighting in scenarios that are as realistic as possible. It doesn’t matter what size or age you are, or what physical limitations you have, learn to protect yourself in case of an attack on your life.

No matter where you live, the effect violence has on a woman’s soul makes any and every form of violence a life-long wound. Ask yourself, "What am I waiting for?" It's a scary topic - one that many of us can't bear to think about. Don't wait! IMPACT offers you the opportunity to face your fears in a safe environment, in the company of women who are there for the same reason you are: to become empowered and gain confidence by building a voice against violence.

Register today at olli.UND.edu or call 777.3000. Cost is $35 for OLLI members; $55 for UND students, faculty, and staff; $70 for non-members. A four-day parking permit is $15. Training is on four Tuesdays: Oct. 1, 8, 15, and 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hyslop Sports Center, third floor.
