Al Austin reception to be held Oct. 8
The UND community is welcome to join family and former colleagues and students of the late Alvin Austin at a Center for Community Engagement reception during Homecoming. The reception is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8.
Austin was a member of the UND journalism faculty from 1946 to 1980, chairing the department for over 20 of those years. He died in 1999. The annual reception provides an opportunity for Austin’s many contributions to UND, Grand Forks, and the surrounding area to be remembered.
The first Austin Legacy Awards will be presented during a short program at 4:30 p.m. The awards are being given to outstanding students and colleagues of Alvin Austin in recognition of professional accomplishments for community benefit. Awards will be given to Larry Aasen, Darryl Dorgan, Judy Hensle, and Mike Jacobs, as well as Archie Hill, a special colleague of Austin who died Aug. 18.
An announcement about the future growth of the Center for Community Engagement will also be made at the event. For more information, please contact Lana Rakow, director, Center for Community Engagement, at 777-2287 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
