Ralph Engelstad Arena welcomed more than 410,000 guests this year
Ralph Engelstad Arena opened its doors to the community on Oct. 5, 2001. Today, arena officials released attendance totals for the completed 2009-2010 event cycle as well as the first nine year totals. Attendance figures are calculated from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30 annually.
There were 410,733 guests who attended events at Ralph Engelstad Arena during the 2009-2010 event season. Over the past nine years, event attendance figures have remained strong. Ralph Engelstad Arena has averaged 441,686 event guests per year over the nine year period. These numbers include guests attending events and do not include daily tours. World Championship events in 2005 (IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship) and 2008 (World Men's Curling Championship) aided in establishing the strong average annual attendance figure.
Year-by-year totals are as follows:
- 2001-02 - 330,000
- 2002-03 - 425,930
- 2003-04 - 409,592
- 2004-05 - 627,501 (includes the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship)
- 2005-06 - 440,723
- 2006-07 - 425,124
- 2007-08 - 501,133 (includes the World Men's Curling Championship)
- 2008-09 - 404,442
- 2009-10 - 410,733
Total Attendance - 3,975,178
Ralph Engelstad Arena will surpass the four-million attendance milestone during the UND men's hockey vs. Denver University series this weekend.
The strong 2009-2010 attendance total was driven by the 265,754 fans who attended Fighting Sioux men's hockey games, which was second in the NCAA in total and per game average attendance (the rankings do not include exhibition games).
"We would like to thank the community and our fans for their support during our ninth year of operation, especially during these challenging economic times when there are fewer national tours and special events to solicit," said Jody Hodgson, REA general manager. "With an exceptionally busy event year planned for 2010-11, we look forward to another great year."
Ralph Engelstad Arena welcomed its two-millionth UND men's hockey fan during the 2009-2010 season. Jeremy Halverson was the two-millionth fan and received a reserved VIP parking spot for the 2009-10 season in recognition of the milestone.
